A Message from Our CEO

To our customers,

As we approach the end of spring, continued improvements in international shipping and a shift in global weather conditions have strengthened our optimism.

Looking into the crop landscape, all signs point to the conclusion of El Niño, relieving pressure on impacted categories. After more than a year of hardship and low yields, anchovy fishing in Peru has begun a return to normalcy. With this shift in weather patterns and the current availability of fish, we are hopeful to see continued recovery in this category.

Artichoke crops were also greatly affected by the weather phenomenon in 2023. As El Niño conditions clear, artichoke yields are predicted to be stable in 2024.

The saffron crop has been significantly impacted by extreme drought and increased scrutiny by US Customs and Border Protection. These challenges have drastically delayed the replenishment of saffron in the United States. Roland Foods goes to great lengths to guarantee that its saffron is completely pure and obtained from ethical producers.

Regarding global logistics, import volumes to the United States continue to follow a 10% year-over-year increase. If this trend of inflated figures continues, we may witness a less dramatic “peak season” during the summer months.

Operations in the Panama Canal are improving each week. Increased rainfall has increased daily vessel crossings, which has minimized delays in the last month. As conditions continue to improve, full recovery can be expected by 2025.

On the contrary, unstable conditions in the Suez Canal persist, keeping the passage inaccessible for nearly all vessels. While the current circumstances are less than favorable, the ocean carrier network has adapted well, resulting in more predictable transit times.

At Roland Foods, we remain vigilant in observing every aspect of the industry to proactively address any challenges that may emerge.

Sincerely,
