A Message from Our CEO
To our customers,
The new year is already presenting challenges, from tariff changes to shifting weather patterns, but we are prepared and well-positioned for a strong year. Ongoing improvements in global logistics and a positive crop outlook in meaningful categories further strengthen our confidence for the months ahead.
On February 1st, President Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs on imports from China, Mexico, and Canada: 10% on goods from China and 25% on goods from Mexico and Canada, with certain exclusions. While the tariffs on products from China were implemented February 4, 2025, the tariffs applied to products from Canada and Mexico have been postponed by one month and are set to be implemented in March. We have been preparing for these tariffs since before the presidential election and are working diligently to mitigate their impact and maintain stability for our customers.
Stability in global trade routes is showing promise. A recent ceasefire in the Gaza region paves the way for the Suez Canal to resume normal operations after a year of disruption caused by targeted attacks. Once deemed secure, a fully operational canal is expected to refine import efficiency, lower freight rates, and improve transit times.
Looking at the crop landscape, after consecutive years of below-average balsamic vinegar production due to poor grape harvest yields, production volumes are showing a slight improvement over last year. However, these volumes remain well below the historical levels, reflecting persistent challenges due to European weather conditions. We will continue to monitor to evaluate their long-term impact on supply and pricing.
Prolonged dry weather and multiple typhoons have significantly impacted coconut yields in South Asia and South America during the latter half of 2024, leading to below-average production and raising concerns about supply and pricing. As the high harvest season approaches in April and May, we will continue to monitor weather conditions and their potential effects on crop yields.
At Roland Foods, we remain committed to staying informed and proactive, ensuring we navigate challenges effectively to support our partners and the industry.
